Project #3-Amigos De Las Americas

Seasons greetings!  Our team headed off to the University of Washington Campus to help out youth volunteers of Amigos Youth Leadership Program.  Amigos de las Americas (AMIGOS) is an international, non-profit organization that provides unparalleled leadership and community service opportunities for young people while concurrently contributing to the well-being of hundreds of communities throughout the Americas.  The youth were asked to send out 100 letters each to friends and family, informing them of their participation in the program and requesting
donations to help support the youth to complete a
6-8 week summer abroad volunteer trip to South America.  Our team helped out by assisting the youth with the mailing by hand addressing each envelope, writing names on reply cards, stuffing, sealing and stamping the envelopes. Our team enjoyed getting to help the youth and their families complete this project in no time, and we left without any paper cuts! Afterwards, we went to Big Time Brewery for pizza and a few beverages.  Overall a great day! Until next time!

Happy Holidays!

Dodgeball!!

We wanted to have a little fun outside of our monthly projects...and what better way than to play dodgeball (team bonding, right?) and on TRAMPOLINES!?!?!?! What a crazy and super fun way to see who we really need to watch out for. jk!

Our team plus our friends - 20 of us to be exact - went to Sky High Sports in Bellevue and played an hour of dodgeball on these AMAZING trampolines. Boy was it a work out!!! Totally tires you out but soooooo worth the fun, plus my team was awesome! Check it out if you can! http://sea.jumpskyhigh.com/

The rounds went so fast, we used the time before we started the next to rest...which was only about 10 secs!!

What's that? You gonna get us or what?!

Smiles even if you're out!

Awesome time with the Beer View Mirrors and friends - Let's not forget that awesome shirt ;)

Just some big kids jumping!

Green Seattle Day - A Day at Camp Long with EarthCorps

This past weekend on an awesome, rainy day in Seattle, the Beer View Mirrors volunteered with EarthCorps and several other organizations at Camp long.

Despite the weather, our team worked hard with the tasks we were given. Together, with all the other volunteers, we planted 790 plants and moved over 10 yards of mulch! Craziness! It was a great event, we learned about how most of Seattle's urban forests are invaded with non-native plants and how many organizations continue to work hard to destroy the invasive plants and replace them with native plants.

Our arms are now a little more buff, thanks to that HUGE mulch line! Never saw so much mulch before. The project was a success and the Beer View Mirrors were awesome - plus pigging out afterward on pizza and beer was rewarding!

Cheers!

10/2 Project-Operation Sack Lunch

Greetings from Beer View Mirrors!  Our group headed off to Compass Center Men's Program in Pioneer Square, who hosts the kitchen to Operation Sack Lunch.  We had the opportunity to prepare a fantastic dinner for approximately 50 people. Sack Lunch currently serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, seven days each week to the homeless children, women, and men, who call Seattle their home. They prepare 17,000 meals per month in numerous locations throughout Seattle, and with only a handful of staff at Compass and the help of volunteers like us.  Our team helped to prepare a meal from scratch, no recipes involved!  It was a great team building activity, that gave us the opportunity to make a delicious and unique meal that was one of a kind.  We broke out into groups of 2-3 to create our meal consisting of a chicken stir fry with a side of root vegetables, salad, savory rolls and strawberry short cake for dessert.  What makes Sack Lunch very unique is that they use all organic food to prepare healthy meals for Compass.  Everything is natural, with no artificial flavors.  Overall, it was a great day!
