Magnuson Children's Garden

Greetings! Saturday we headed to Magnuson Children's Garden to help prepare the garden for winter.  We partnered with the Children's Garden Committee members, King County Master Gardeners and a Girl Scout crew for our project.  It was fun to be back to Magnuson to see the growth of the plants we had planted last year and get the garden ready for winter. Highlights included our weeding, mulching, our BVM dog mascots Utah and Jaeg and Hamburgers @ Ram afterwards.  Overall a fun day!

Painting for the Evening - Sacajawea Elementary School

Aloha!

On Wednesday, August 22nd, Beer View Mirrors spent a few hours at Sacajawea Elementary School.  The project: sprucing up the gym with new paint!

The team worked fast considering we only had 2.5 hours (but we finished the whole thing in less than two hours).

It was a quick project and fun to see what an gym for elementary kids looks like - you know it's been a few years for all of us.. :)

It was a quick project since we were short on time - first time we forgot to take a photo! But here's a cool find - in the gym, there was wall of these wooden ladders - all attached with ropes, and they swing out.  Most of us have never seen it before - but here's a photo from 1967:

Pretty neat to see how the thing actually works!

And since everyone worked that day before the project - the team was starving. So off to The Ram @Northgate they went!

Thanks for reading, have a great day!

What do you know, I ran into an ol' friend who happened to be the featuring artist!! Weston Jandacka - we loved your pieces! Good Luck! Check out his work!

Hope y'all get to enjoy art near you - many neighborhoods in Seattle have them! Enjoy an afternoon and explore, never know what you'll find!

Highland Park Elementary School

Today we went to Highland Park Elementary School to help the Community Day School Association with some gardening to prepare for the upcoming school year. Our main activity was weeding two beds that seemed to have been forgotten over the summer. We also transplanted some daisies, and finally planted some new flowers in the beds we cleared. Our newest members and subs got to add to our team's super gardening skills for the first time.

After 4 steadily-warmer hours in the sun, we headed to the Matador in West Seattle for some drinks and lunch. As usual, we enjoyed their nachos, burgers, and Mexican beer. Another community project accomplished, and another good afternoon with friends, old and new!

BVM: OMG Seattle Works Day!

Greetings All!

Seattle Works Day....what can one say? To capture the day in a few words, a haiku felt appropriate:

Seattle Works Day
amazing and fun
plants, smiles, old friends and new
tacos, laughs and beer!

Our team headed to Magnuson Park Community Center for Seattle Works Day this Saturday.  What a beautiful day for planting!  The gang recruited friends, co-workers and partnered with another group from Corbis to help out with this event.  We planted native shrubs, ferns and groundcover plants throughout the landscape. We also learned various facts about worm poop,  lovingly massaging soil in potted plants to help the roots out and more. Overall a success! We headed to the SWD after party @ Seattle Center for tacos, beer, flip cup and merriment.

Until next time!

BVM: Sunny Saturday @ Marra Farms!

Greetings! So the BVM Crew got out our green thumbs and headed back to Marra Farms in South Park on a delightfully sunny Saturday for a morning of weeding, planting and composting.  Marra Farm is a urban community farm engaging people in sustainable agriculture and education while enhancing local food security.  Marra has over 4 acres of historic preserved farmland, and generated over 22,000 pounds of food last year.  Whoa! We made a lot of progress @ the farm during our time there.

Our team headed to Pecoras after for some Pizza, Beer and mingling with the other SW teams.  We polished the afternoon off with a stop to Molly Moons in Capitol Hill, followed by laying in a food coma in Cal Anderson Park.  Note to self: remember sunscreen—it’s ok to ask for help!

Until next time,
BVM

BVM Eats!

If you haven't noticed, the team likes to eat and drink... a lot!

Here are some fun gatherings we had the past couple of months:

Eating at BBQ Pete's in Kent, WA.
If you happen to find yourself in the area, definitely stop by! We beat the lunch rush, AND they have a complimentary soft serve ice cream station!

Early summer barbecue with wine :)

We LOVE the Mariners! Hope you do too!

Brunch at Roxy's - so good!!!!

BVM @ the Farmers' Market!

For our 3rd Challenge this season we were at the Sunday Fremont Market having a great time checking out the local scene and grubbing on local food!

Eating at the Fremont Sunday Market!!! We decided on grubbing at Maximus Minimus, I finally got to try it, although I still had to wait 30 mins in line. :(

The season just begun so make sure you stop by one of these days!!! Enjoy!

BVM @ Northwest Harvest

Hello All!

For the month of April, the team volunteered at one of our favorite organizations, Northwest Harvest. If you have been reading along with us you saw we were there just last season!

Another thing we also did was we donated a ton of food, about 30lbs + of food to Northwest Harvest!

As always, we enjoy our time working with different organizations at NW Harvest. Just a little thing about the organization:
Northwest Harvest is the only non-profit food bank distributor operating statewide in Washington with a network of over 325 food banks, meal programs and high-need schools. We provide over 1.6 million meals every month to this network.

Amazing!!! Let us know if you would like to help out too, we can direct you to the right people!

Thank you!
